The European Framework for Pedagogical Change ASSEMBLY, as presented in the NEB Festival (and related events), stands out as a disruptive initiative in face of the evolving field of architectural education.
Selected as one the Heart of Fair projects the main innovation indicators of the cycle are critically examined in the context of a transformation process aimed at redefining architectural education by bridging academia, territories, and communities.
- Territory-Based Learning:
- the framework transforms traditional teaching by embedding curricula in real-world challenges (such as extreme heat, resource scarcity, and affordable housing) faced by all, and specially by small municipalities (in the south of euroep) where this approach can enable immersive and collaborative apparatus where learning from the territory and its people, ensures education is rooted in lived/real/socially charged experiences
- Assembly as performance and exhibition:
- dissemination of the achieved outcomes in a immersive exhibition made from visual records (photographs, posters, drawings and videos) and interactive digital interfaces to showcase collaborative projects to visitors (colleagues, citizens, students, and decision-makers) can engage directly the content with the proposed ideas in the Manteigas/Catarroja workshops creating a living space for dialogue and co-creation in the Heart of the Fair
- Reform Through Collaboration:
- true reform is co-created by all participants, leveling students, teachers, local authorities, and communities, integrating technical, social, and artistic knowledge
- this interdisciplinary/non-disciplinary approach transcends traditional boundaries, aligning education with real-world needs and proposing new frameworks as just, sustainable, and cooperative future for all practionares and disicplinary agents
- Scalable Continental Model:
- by demonstrating how curriculum modifications can achieve local impact within a continental European vision, the project positions the NEBgS platform as a catalyst for broader pedagogical transformation from the commitment to sustainable practices and network efficiency aligned with the New European Bauhaus principles
- Publication and Dissemination:
- the accompanying publication “EPIC CYCLE” – launched at the Zagreb satellite event – documents the achieved outcomes and results and contributions from the ONAC 01 cycle, ensuring the framework’s scalability and reproducibility across Europe from NEBgSouth founders to new members and new cycles
This participation represents the way that by merging education with societal needs, creating a dynamic, inclusive, and actionable model for pedagogical change we are able not only to transform architectural pedagoical devices (“teaching redux”) but also empowers communities to co-design-collaborate-cooperate on sustainable solutions, embodying the New European Bauhaus ethos of sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion.
